ISTA Tennis Tournament

This week the U13 and U15 Tennis players travelled to Eton College for the ISTA Tennis Tournament. This is a national tournament played over 4 days and the level of play is extremely high. The girls were outstanding ambassadors for the school and we are very proud of the way they conducted themselves.

On Saturday, the sun was out and shining down on the U15 tennis pairs of Lulu and Pretoria and Betty and Lola. Both pairs played 6 competitive matches over the course of the day, against some fierce competition. Lulu and Pretoria steadily grew stronger with each match, although they narrowly lost to a very good Millfield side in their penultimate game. Likewise, Betty and Lola consistently improved their skills and teamwork and they were playing with great confidence right up until a tough last match against KGS. Both pairs ended the day winning 4 games and losing two, meaning both went through to the Cup knockout rounds on Sunday. A big achievement for both sets of players.

The U15 pairs were back in action for the cup competition on Sunday 30th July which meant they would face some strong opposition. The girls played valiantly but lost their matches which meant that they would return on Monday to the plate competition.

Betty and Lola were up first against St Helens and St Katherines on Monday. The girls started well but dropped the first set. They started well again in the second set, playing well but weren’t able to win the big points, which meant they lost control of the set and with that the match. Lulu and Pretoria played a close quarter-final match to start against Clifton, which went to a deciding tie-break, which they won 10-2. This left them in high spirits for their semi-final against Sevenoaks. Lulu and Pretoria were playing some great tennis with some exciting points but unfortunately were not able to see out the match, meaning they bowed out of the tournament at the semi-final stage, which was a great achievement!
